Proud Dad

Black City Lights
Picture Copyright Luke Appleby, Dominion Post (Used with permission)

I don't often just stick a YouTube clip on a post, but this time I have to.

My son has just had this video made for his group's (Black City Lights) song "Rivers", and I think it is great.

View, listen and enjoy. (Really much better in full screen mode)

  1. Great. I like it. Both the music and the video - clever editing.

Is the smashing light bulg a reference to Callan?

Does y'son know Richard of RBB?. The Old guy lurking around could be a reference to him.

    I noticed the bible!

I guess the girlie shots were an homage to his old man.

    1. Thanks TC, I think it's pretty good.

My goodness, Callan, that takes me back.

Seeing that the video was shot in NY by a 23 year old expatriate Austrian, I doubt that the Callan reference was part of his Weltanschauung.

I don't think m'son has met Richard. He's never made any reference to strange double bass players.

The bible bit was the only thing I didn't like (plus the cigarette smoking)...and I didn't understand why the bible reader had a dog on his arm? Maybe a reference to HMV?

I HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GIRLIE SHOTS.

Nice though, especially the bit where she tore of her T-shirt.

    1. Thanks, I'm very proud.

Of course he gets all his creative ability from me.

I'm always proud of him, but this was a lovely extra.

  4. Comeinyourpants (referring to The Curmudgeon for those who dobn't read my blog), that wasn't me lurking but it could have been Second reading the bible. Also Comeinyourpants could have been one of the woman (on an honorary basis).

Morning TSB. Congratulate your son - this is very good. I really enjoyed it.

    1. Good point about the "Honorary Woman". Actually I'm surprised he ever mentioned it...do you think he's going through "The Change"

Thanks Richard, I'll pass your message to m'son

    3. Thanks VG, I've already told him that a nice little vineyard on Waiheke Island will do us nicely.

  7. Very good. A touch of the old Scottish gloom at the edges perhaps but it's very well made.

    1. Thanks looby. Scottish Gloom?

Whatever gave you the idea that the Scots were a dour, grouchy bunch of doom-laden introspective masochits. Apart from the bloody climate that is.

  8. Enjoyed it so much I had a listen to some of the other stuff on YT as well. Great video - there did seem to be an homage to the pervy side of his old man I thought but reading replies to some of the comments I see you'd nothing to do with it {an Austrian in NY indeed. What will they think of next - an Austrian as governor of California?}

I can see why you're a proud Dad. Even if he did get his creativity from his Mum........

    1. Thanks Alistair, although I'm not too sure about your 'pervy' comment. A tad lecherous perhaps, but not pervy.

Funnily enough, his mum is tone deaf.

    2. you're right TSB - my apologies. Not the word I should have used. So-reee

    3. No need to say sorry Alistair, and to be honest, there's not that much difference.

  9. Lots of interesting iconic images juxtiposed and beautifully made video. Their song reminds me of a Kiwi Dubstep band (I don't really know what Dubstep means) called Mt Eden who went viral recently. How incredibly to have such a talented lad in the house. I despair of my kids, they were fired by the piano teacher.

    1. Thanks ALW, I've never heard of Dubstep or Mt Eden, but I'll ask my son for more information on them. Don't despair, my boy was also fired by his piano teacher because he refused to do any practice.

    1. Thanks Austan. He didn't actually produce the video, he commisioned a NY based director, but the music is his.

    2. Cool music and classy video. The music seems really original to me, not that I am much of an expert on genres. You have a talented son.
I agree about the Bee Gees (re your comment on my blog, ) by the way!

    3. Thank you Jenny, I think it's original as well, and I'm just a boring old fart (quote from one of my trendy pupils)
